The Cayman International Reinsurance Companies Association (CIRCA) has announced its board of directors and leadership team for 2025, following a year of milestones for the Cayman Islands’ reinsurance sector.
The association’s new leadership said that it aims to continue advancing advocacy, education, and growth within the industry.
The 2025 leadership team includes Greg Mitchell (pictured above) of Aureum Re as chair and Faramarz Romer of Greenlight Re as vice chair. The board of directors is composed of senior leaders from prominent reinsurance companies, including:
Outgoing chair David C. Self reflected on CIRCA’s achievements in 2024, noting key initiatives such as the inaugural ReConnect conference, the expanded Reinsurance Roundtable in New York, the Caymanian Rising Stars Program, and the Reinsurance Insights Series.
The ReConnect conference attracted 431 attendees, 33 speakers, and 32 sponsors, while the New York event brought together 200 participants, including international stakeholders. Membership in CIRCA grew by 33% during the year.
Self also highlighted CIRCA’s focus on regulatory advocacy, including collaboration with the Cayman Islands Monetary Authority (CIMA) and the Insurance Managers Association of Cayman (IMAC). CIRCA participated in discussions on US regulatory developments, including attendance at the 2024 NAIC meetings, and contributed to two independent industry papers.
Partnerships with the Ministry of Financial Services, CIMA, IMAC, and Cayman Finance also played a significant role in strengthening the jurisdiction’s reinsurance sector.
Incoming chair Mitchell outlined CIRCA’s priorities for 2025, emphasizing the association’s commitment to representing the interests of its members.
“Our focus will continue to be on protecting the operating environment of our members by advocating for shared positions on regulatory issues, defending and promoting our jurisdiction’s reputation when necessary, and educating the local community about the value and opportunities within the Cayman reinsurance industry,” Mitchell said.
Self will transition to a part-time role as general manager, where he will continue supporting CIRCA’s initiatives and working closely with the new leadership team to advance the association’s mission.
