Direct Line Insurance Group Plc (DLG) has unveiled the company’s second sustainability report, in which the Bromley-headquartered insurer expresses its optimism in terms of how it’s been performing against sustainability pillars spanning customers, people, society, planet, and governance.

“In 2021,” said DLG in its 38-page report, “we continued to embed sustainability initiatives with greater confidence across our five-pillar strategy. Our confidence comes from a clear view of what priorities matter and what action can transform our business for the better as we aim to build an insurance company of the future.”

The group’s initiatives included moving to a mixed model of working; joining the Race to Net Zero campaign; enhancing customer convenience via digital tools; achieving progress in increasing women and minority representation in leadership; initiating a supply chain sustainability programme; and donating £1.5 million to charities and good causes.

“There is now real momentum within our business on pushing forward on our sustainability agenda,” commented DLG chief executive Penny James. “As we implement our strategy, we are clear-sighted about what will deliver results for us as a group, and for our various stakeholders, meaning we are embedding sustainability with greater confidence.

“Embracing sustainable practices is how we keep Direct Line Group moving forward to be an insurance company of the future. Looking after our customers, employing great people and ensuring they flourish, tackling climate change, operating within a strong society, and having a reputation for high standards of governance; these are not nice-to-haves, they are foundations for our future success.”
