Canopius has bolstered its underwriting support capability with the creation of a new underwriting counsel for its specialty division that focuses on credit and political risk, and has also announced the appointment of lawyer Sean Redden to the London-based role. He reports directly to Bernie de Haldevang, head of specialty.

“I am delighted to welcome a legal mind of Sean’s calibre to our growing speciality team. Canopius is committed to offering a first class and comprehensive underwriting service to our clients and brokers, and Sean will play a vital role in delivering on that promise. Attracting an industry leader with a career as impressive as Sean’s is testament to the organisation we are building at Canopius and I am looking forward to working closely with him again,” said de Haldevang.

Redden is a legal practitioner in a number of jurisdictions and business lines, and joins Canopius from Chubb Insurance. In his new role, he is tasked with supporting Canopius’s specialty underwriting team, especially on matters involving credit and political risk.

The firm expects Redden to help reduce operational risk, increase efficiency and enhance client support in loss mitigation and potential claims scenarios. He will further assist in managing the legal aspects of debt restructuring and refinancing.
