Johnstone Insurance Brokers offers watercraft insurance covering hull and liability risks not just for individual owners but also for clubs and other associated commercial risks. Its program has been around for over three decades, with one of its first few schemes starting out in the 1980s, when a commercial client bought a Wetbike in the US and needed to insure it when he got back. A scheme was created on the back of the original plan, and the client has remained with the company, even though the original Wetbike is long gone, says MD Chris Harper.
Johnstone positions itself as the only locally owned independent broker in Scunthorpe. Set up by Roger Johnstone in 1983, the business grew and welcomed three directors over 15 years, It joined Willis Commercial Network in 2002 and was re-established as a new company with a management buyout in 2006.
