Having entered the industry in 2005, Rob Hough has proven himself to be exactly the kind of forward-looking, intuitive broker that the London market needs. He entered the industry through a broker’s graduate programme, and then spent five years running a mutual for Regis Mutual Management. Finding himself drawn to the political risk market, Hough partnered with a friend to set up a political risk operation at London broker NMB, which grew to a team of eight. When NMB’s parent company Cooper Gay was transformed into Ed, Hough took over the team after it was pared down to just two people.
Hough has been enthusiastically entrepreneurial in his leadership role, welcoming all the changes that have happened along the way. He has focused on bringing in new business, with much success, and on gaining traction through a combination of his own efforts and Ed’s reinvented approach to global broking. As a result of his vision, management approach and high-octane energy, the team is set to reach the same brokerage income that was once achieved by a team four times larger and is looking to achieve much greater profits this year.
