AXA XL confirms stalwart’s comeback

Industry stalwart Ian Sawyer, whose insurance career began in 1987, has rejoined AXA XL as London head of US casualty, reinsurance.

A seasoned executive with experience spanning broking, underwriting, and claims handling, Sawyer will lead the insurer’s global markets US casualty team in the UK. His credentials include time spent at BMS, Odyssey Re Group, R K Carvill & Co., and SiriusPoint.

The appointment marks Sawyer’s return to AXA XL, having served as XL Catlin’s head of US casualty treaty in London for nearly 12 years from 2006.

“We’re delighted to welcome Ian back to the business,” said London reinsurance head Marcus Gonzales. “He brings with him a wealth of knowledge and experience built over a long career in long-tail reinsurance.

“Ian’s experience and market profile will help us to continue to serve our clients and London brokers while enhancing our reinsurance business.”
