Homeowners’ insurance platform Openly has announced the appointment of Grant Owens as chief product and underwriting officer. In his new role, Owens will lead the product team and spearhead product development.

Prior to joining Openly, Owens served as an executive vice president at Willis Re. He previously worked at Liberty Mutual.

“Grant has a proven track record of developing and deploying innovative platforms and products,” said Openly co-founder and CEO Ty Harris. “We are incredibly grateful to be in a position to appoint the best and the brightest in the insurance industry. We trust that with Grant joining our team, we are charging forward on a path to provide simplified insurance processes for all independent agents and consumers.”

“We are living in a time where customers and independent agents demand a tech-forward insurance product, and I’m grateful to be given the opportunity to lead that charge,” Owens said. “Our team will focus on improving upon the current homeowners’ product, with the goal being to have the product available to agents in more states, while developing new product lines in parallel.”

Openly has also announced upcoming enhancements to its product, which enables agents and consumers to obtain homeowners insurance quotes in under 15 seconds. They include:

  • Rapidly expanding its homeowners’ footprint to make the product available in more states.
  • Continuing to enhance its up-market product pricing and underwriting algorithms using AI and machine learning.
  • Development of complementary products like umbrella and flood, and eventually personal auto.
