State Farm customers get new incentive

State Farm is expanding its program to provide electrical fire risk detectors to more home insurance policyholders.

The insurer has partnered with smart home developer Whisker Labs to offer the latter’s Ting devices. Ting monitors the electrical network of a home utilizing a plug-in sensor to detect any hazards before they get a chance to cause a fire.

State Farm first partnered with Whisker Labs in 2020 to offer 40,000 Ting devices to eligible customers in Arizona, California and Texas. For this year and 2022, State Farm is expanding the Ting offering, with another 100,000 devices to be handed out to qualified non-tenant homeowner policyholders in more states.

The insurer said that it would begin marketing the Ting devices to policyholders in Ohio on May 18. Additional states and dates have yet to be determined, but Ting will remain available to customers in Arizona, California and Texas.

“State Farm is committed to fire safety and providing customers the newest fire safety technology,” said State Farm senior vice president of property & casualty Chris Schell. “We’re excited about the expansion of the Ting sensor program. Now, even more homeowners can have the peace of mind that they’re doing everything possible to protect one of their most valuable assets.”

Eligible customers who enroll for Ting will receive the sensor for free (with mobile app access), no annual service fees for Ting for three years, and $1,000 in credit toward remediation of electrical fire hazards – provided by Whisker Labs.
