Nikola Motor announced Monday that it achieved “100% zero emissions” on its Nikola One commercial class 8 truck.
The company’s chief executive touts the development as the “the holy grail of the trucking industry.”

Founder and CEO Trevor Milton said that the commercial truck model can haul 80,000 pounds of load for more than 1,000 miles without charging on zero emissions. He added that it takes a 15 minute pit stop to juice up for another 1,000 miles.

The 2,000 horsepower class 8 also has 100% electric drive.

“Imagine what this could do for the air in every city in America. We knew our emissions would be low, but to have the ability to achieve true zero emissions is revolutionary for the worldwide trucking industry,” Milton said.

The wait list for the trucks now totals $2.3 billion in reservations, Nikola announced several months ago. Its leasing program costs $4,000-$5,000 per month, depending on truck configuration and options.

Nikola will formally launch the truck in December in Utah.
