A New Jersey couple has been charged with insurance fraud and other offenses after one of them allegedly pretended to be a dentist.

Dr. Amy Rojas is a legitimate dentist, according to a report by news affiliate WABC. Her husband, Oscar Guevara, is an X-ray technician – but that didn’t stop him from posing as a dentist and even performing dental work on his wife’s patients. Guevara even installed the wrong braces for one patient, a 16-year-old girl who needed the damage repaired by an actual dentist.

One woman who said her daughter was a patient told WABC that Guevara’s ministrations did more harm than good.

“I brought my daughter here, and she got an infection in her mouth,” Kenisha Campbell told WABC. “And I had to rush her to the hospital.”

Rojas herself is also in trouble. She allegedly submitted fraudulent bills to insurance companies for work allegedly performed by her but actually performed by Guevara, according to WABC.

Guevara has been charged with conspiracy to commit healthcare claims fraud and practicing dentistry without a license. Rojas has been charged with healthcare claims fraud and conspiracy to commit healthcare claims fraud.
