The former manager of a healthcare company has announced his intent to run for insurance commissioner in the state of Kansas.

Nathaniel McLaughlin of Kansas City, Kansas, has filed for a spot on the August primary ballot; he is the only Democrat running, to date.

McLaughlin is a former regional manager for Sodexo Healthcare Services. He said that as regional manager, he oversaw the company’s operations in eight states. The Associated Press also reported that McLaughlin has served as president of the state and local National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP) chapters.

In 2016, McLaughlin ran for Congress, finishing second in a three-person Democratic primary in the 3rd District in the Kansas City area.
