A Pennsylvania chiropractor is facing charges for scamming three insurance companies out of about $150,000.

A grand jury has alleged that Lawrence Scott Herman, 51, cheated Highmark, Capital Blue Cross and Erie Insurance by sending them bogus bills for office visits and treatments in a scam that lasted from 2010 to 2014. Herman has been indicted on charges of theft by deception and insurance fraud among others.

Authorities said that Herman billed the insurers for visits or treatments that never took place, according to a report from Pennlive.com. On many of the dates Herman said he provided treatment, either he or the patient were actually out of town. In some cases, Herman’s supposed patients were visiting Disney World, on a cruise, or even giving birth on the date he said the treatment took place.

Two of Herman’s employees, Joshua M. Rosinski and Joseph P. Brady, were indicted in December for allegedly submitting fraudulent claims to insurers. Bracy testified to the grand jury that he was instructed to submit the fraudulent bills – and although he couldn’t remember which specific employee gave him the instruction, the orders ultimately came from Herman.

Rosinski, meanwhile, told the grand jury that Herman wasn’t a fan of insurance companies, Pennlive.com reported. Rosinski testified that Herman told his employees that insurers were “bad entities” and “the more we could take from them was better.”

This isn’t the first time the Pennsylvania chiropractor has been in trouble with the law, according to Pennlive.com. In 2014, he was sentenced to five months in federal prison after pleading guilty to making false statements in healthcare matters.
