Curi, a mutual insurance company serving physicians, has named Sean Farrelly as its new senior vice president of underwriting.

Farrelly will lead the company’s underwriting operations nationwide, while helping develop the company’s offerings in medical professional liability insurance, alternative risk, and other similar solutions, a release explained.

He joins from global reinsurer PartnerRe, where he served as the portfolio manager for medical professional liability reinsurance in the US. Farrelly also handled a diverse portfolio of casualty reinsurance business as part of the US Casualty team. Before joining PartnerRe, Farrelly held a number of underwriting leadership roles at Odyssey Re.

Both PartnerRe and Odyssey Re are longtime partners of Curi, formerly known as Medical Mutual.

Curi chief financial officer Jason Sandner noted in a statement that Farrelly’s arrival is the company’s latest affirmation of its commitment to innovating in the medical professional liability space.

“With his macro-level view of the market as a whole, Sean will bring broad thinking to our underwriting approach and initiatives,” Sandner added.

Curi’s insurance offerings are currently available in 46 states and the District of Columbia. On top of medical malpractice insurance, the company offers wealth management and well-being programs to physicians and those who support them.
