People on the Move: Changes for FM Global, York and PHLY

Insurance Business highlights the biggest industry moves in the insurance world this week.

Things have been busy in the insurance world in the last weeks of January, with new appointments and industry shuffles at major brokers and insurers.

Insurance Business takes a look at promotions at FM Global and Philadelphia Insurance Companies and a transition at York Risk Services Group.

FM Global

FM Global, the leading commercial property insurer, announced it had promoted Nicholas Batten from assistant vice president to vice president, manager of global services.

Working at the company’s USA headquarters in Johnston, R.I., batten will oversee global programs for multinational clients and work directly with FM Global’s WorldReach insurance and service network.

“The newly created position underscores the ongoing commitment we have to our WorldReach partners around the globe where we have collaborated for many years to serve our mutual policyholders,” said Alex Tadmoury, senior vice president, manager of client service and sales.

Batten joined FM Global in 2000 as a client service representative in the company’s Windsor, UK office and then servced as an account manager for serveral eyars in Stockholm. He has risen on the corporate ladder thanks to his background in financial services and retail broker, the company said.

York Risk Services

The national claims management and managed care insurer York Risk Services Group announced the appointment Rob Gelb as managing vice president of sales last week. In this role Gelb will direct sales efforts for the company’s Risk Management division from the Parsippany, NJ corporate offices.

Gelb is a new acquisition for York, previous working as senior vice president for Coventry Workers’ Compensation Services. He has also held a variety of executive sales management positions in the insurance and healthcare industries.

Gelb brings with him industry relationships, product knowledge and experience to York, the company noted.

Philadelphia Insurance Companies (PHLY)

P/C insurance company PHLY, which specializes in niche markets, promoted John Doyle from vice president to senior vice president of underwriting.

In his new role, Doyle will oversee PHLY’s Public Service and Human Service Underwriting Divisions, the company said.

Commenting on the appointment, executive vice president and chief underwriting officer for PHLY, John Glomb, said:

“John has seen it all and performed exceptionally in every role since joining us 25 years ago. He helped establish some of the company’s most successful products, and his knowledge and experience will be further utilized in his new position.”

Doyle has spent the entirety of his insurance career at PHLY, first joining in 1989 as a claims department worker.
