Frank Cowan Company presented the Municipality of East Hants an award for Excellence in Municipal Risk Management on Thursday.

The annual award was given out during the Frank Cowan Company Reception during the Federation of Canadian Municipalities Conference in Ottawa.

The Municipality was recognized for its development and implementation of a safety program at its operating sites that “improved organization of material, eliminated inadequate inventory control and mitigated safety hazards such as blocked emergency equipment.” The city’s risk management solution included three initiatives which all helped reinforce a culture of safety.

“It is important to note that the success and benefits of implementing effective risk management
depends on the quality of the program and the identified risk mitigating actions,” said Municipality of East Hants Warden Jim Smith. “Understanding this leads to proactive rather than reactive risk management. Our infrastructure and operations department has succeeded in accomplishing this and works diligently to raise the bar every day.”

“We believe in recognizing municipalities for their risk management achievements. I would like to thank all who applied and congratulate the Municipality of East Hants on winning the Excellence in Municipal Risk Management Award. Our hope is that other municipalities can learn from East Hants and advance their risk management strategies,” said Frank Cowan Company president Larry Ryan..
