For this shooting star streaking across the insurance sky, she understands the privilege and honour that comes with being named a Chartered Insurance Professional Society Emerging Leader.

“It is truly an honour to be recognized by the CIP Society and to be held in the same company as the past and current recipients,” says Lindsay Mackenzie, a commercial lines manager of Intact Insurance of Mississauga. “The support of my peers, team, brokers and senior leaders has contributed immensely to my success.”

Other honourees in the category of Emerging Leaders were Anne-Marie Deschenes, a marketer with Aon Risk Solutions in Montreal, and Tammie Norn, CEO of ProFormance Group Inc. in Pickering. Taking the Established Leader accolades were Ginny Bannerman, vice president of Finance West, Intact Insurance in Calgary, and James Cameron, president of Cameron & Associates Insurance Consultants of Toronto.

Mackenzie joined Intact Insurance’s underwriting department in 2007 as a Commercial Lines Trainee, and since worked her way up the ladder.

“What sets Lindsay apart as an emerging leader is her commitment to her role and her team,” wrote one person in support of Mackenzie. “Not only does she strive for personal success – she encourages the professional development of her coworkers by delegating projects and providing support during the process, which allows her employees to grow.” (continued.)

Those who have worked with Mackenzie say that she makes it a priority to share her knowledge and experience with her broker partners and provides technical training on various classes of business and risk management assessment Her engaging style, depth of knowledge, and passion for finding solutions that work for everyone, has resulted in her quickly becoming a key resource and partner with many brokers and brokerages.

“I would describe Lindsay as a key talent in the insurance industry,” writes one supporter, “and she certainly has a promising insurance career ahead of her.”

As an underwriter and manager, Mackenzie has an innate ability to quickly establish trust and build rapport with those she interacts with. She combines her people skills with strong practical and technical knowledge of the industry and has quickly moved into a leadership position due to her confidence and competence.

“My efforts have been focused on finding solutions for brokers and supporting my team to ensure they can offer a high level of service to brokers and their peers,” Mackenzie told InsuranceBusiness online. “Looking forward, I remain committed to my personal and professional growth and giving back to the community.” (continued.)

Mackenzie’s passion for continuous learning has been a key aspect of her success, reflected in her attaining the Chartered Insurance Professional (CIP) designation in 2008, and shortly after, her Fellow Chartered Insurance Professional (FCIP) and Certified Risk Manager (CRM) designations.

She has also started working towards her Registered Professional Liability Underwriter (RPLU) designation to further increase her technical skill set and has plans to complete her MBA on a part time basis in the coming years.

Outside of the industry, Mackenzie is involved with a number of important initiatives including the “Movember” fundraising campaign for prostate awareness. Since last year, Lindsay has been involved with the Raising the Roof Campaign, supported by Intact Insurance, which pairs with the local organization, Our Place Peel, a residential program for youth homelessness. In addition, Mackenzie is involved with JDRF Ride to Cure Diabetes as a representative on their Ride Cabinet.
