Come July, there will be a new president and CEO steering the Gore Mutual ship as it enters its 175th anniversary year.

Just hours ago, Gore Mutual’s Kevin McNeil announced his intention to retire effective June 30 after 15 years as President & Chief Executive Officer of the Cambridge-based company.

“Kevin's outstanding leadership has resulted in unprecedented growth and success at Gore Mutual,” said Charles Cipolla, chair of Gore Mutual’s board of directors. “Revenues have quadrupled and our balance sheet has never been stronger. Kevin's passion for excellence in all areas of our company and his respect for all our stakeholders have created a compassionate and customer focused culture.”

In line with Gore Mutual's succession plan, Heidi Sevcik, currently Vice President of Claims, will become president and CEO on July 1, after serving as Chief Operating Officer and reporting to McNeil, effective February 17.

“As we look toward the future, the board is confident that Heidi's leadership skills, breadth of experience and business insight will ensure the continued success of our company,” said Cipolla.

“I am delighted that the Board has chosen Heidi as my successor,” said McNeil. “For several years, the Board has been committed to delivering a seamless and well planned CEO transition.” (continued.)

Sevcik has led Gore Mutual’s Claims, Personal Insurance and Commercial Insurance Underwriting operations, and is Chair of management's Investment Committee and a member of the company's Risk Management and Reinsurance Committees.

“She is very well prepared for the CEO role,” said McNeil. “Under her leadership Gore Mutual will continue to provide excellent service to our brokers and policyholders and remain an employer of choice for our employees.”

For Sevcik, she is eager to take on the role as head of Canada’s oldest property and casualty insurance company.

“I'm honoured to have been chosen as president and CEO by our board of directors,” Sevcik. “Kevin is an exceptional leader and mentor. Gore Mutual's leadership team is very strong and together we will remain focused on delivering excellence in everything we do.”

Founded in 1839, Gore Mutual will celebrate its 175th anniversary this year.
