The provider aiming to be Canada’s “Netflix” of insurance

A major solutions provider is trying to encourage Canadian insurance professionals to break their mold and embrace a completely online originations process

ingenie Canada has already made waves as a telematics-friendly insurance provider for young drivers, but now it is in the spotlight again for moving its client acquisition process to a platform also suitable for that demographic.

To do so, it has partnered with Keal Technology, an IT solution for Canadian insurance brokers that hopes to modernize the policy binding experience.

“In the case of ingenie, they wanted to operate as a vertical brokerage and they wanted to attract people to their website through a buy-online experience,” said Pat Durepos, president, Keal Technology. “This allows them to push information to a broker, have that broker underwrite the transaction, and then move the transaction from the brokerage to, in this case, Aviva, in a very electronic and real-time manner.”

Durepos says that Keal acts as a “bridge” between partners’ websites to its broker management system, which enables consumers to enjoy the online experience.

“Keal is a supplier to brokers, and we see our role as providing a solution that starts with the consumer and ends with the insurer, but with full support and control of the broker,” Durepos said.

He feels that e-brokering should be a priority for Canadian insurance professionals, as those who do not embrace digital trends risk ending up like Blockbuster, as opposed to thriving like “Netflix.”

“Consumers want to work with brokers if they have that opportunity, but they also prefer that ease of doing business,” he said. “Brokers provide the trusted advisor role advisor and choice of market, but presently there’s’ not enough brokers providing ease and convenience. We hope to couple with brokers’ strengths and help to increase their market share.”
