Toronto insurer brings in three executives

Two former Travelers Canada employees and one Zurich Canada vice president have been lured to a Toronto firm to populate some senior positions with its central region team.

Two former Travelers Canada employees and one Zurich Canada vice president have been lured to a Toronto firm to populate some senior positions with its central region team.

Specialist insurer Elliott Special Risks, has announced the appointments of Clive Fernandes, Tony Picciano and Marisa Chau to fill out its central region executive positions.

“We are delighted to be welcoming Clive, Tony and Marisa to ESR as part of our organizational restructure,” says Karen Barkley, president of Elliott Special Risks. “We are confident that with their wealth of experience and strong skill sets all three appointees will be great assets to their respective regions.”

Fernandes is now the regional leader in Toronto to lead the underwriting teams and will be responsible for all lines of business within the central region. He will also be the product line manager for general liability.

Fernandes comes from Travelers Canada, where he was vice president of mid markets business insurance.

Also coming from Travelers is Chau, who will be joining the central region EIL team as an underwriter. Chau was the account executive of business insurance since 2013 at Travelers. Prior to this, she worked with Chubb Insurance in various roles including senior underwriting associate, broker unit coordinator and commercial underwriting assistant.

Picciano will become vice president of the eastern region to manage and lead the underwriting teams in Montreal, and will be responsible for all lines of business within the region.

Picciano moves to Markel from Zurich Canada, where he held the position of vice president Eastern Canada and branch manager of the Montreal office since 2012.

Prior to this, he held leadership roles with ACE and also worked for AIG Montreal in underwriting and claims management roles.
