Dave Shepherd founded Shepherd Insurance from his basement in 1977. After five years, Shepherd Insurance was contracted by Erie Insurance to offer auto, home and small business insurance options, in addition to its ongoing life insurance business. Over time, Shepherd established relationships with different carriers, which allowed the company to expand across different markets.
Nearly four decades later, Shepherd Insurance has grown to include more than 300 employees and 20 office locations serving four unique lines of business: commercial, personal, employee benefits and financial services. In Shepherd’s time as chairman and CEO, Shepherd Insurance has been named Agency of the Year by Trusted Choice three times, in addition to being included five times among Inc. 5000’s Fastest- Growing Private Companies in America and being named an Elite Agency and Top Insurance Workplace by Insurance Business America.
