Martin Hacala assumed his current role as president and CEO of General Star and Genesis in early 2015 after starting his career with the Gen Re Group in 1997. Through the years, he has held a number of senior underwriting and claims positions with Genesis, General Star and Gen Re. Prior to joining the Gen Re Group, Hacala was a partner at the Washington, DC, law firm of Ross, Dixon & Bell, where his practice centered on insurance coverage litigation and counseling. Before that, Hacala served as a trial attorney in the employment litigation section of the civil rights division of the US Department of Justice. A frequent speaker and author, Hacala has addressed a wide variety of insurance and reinsurance topics.
