Bryan Sanders has been president of the Markel Assurance division since 2017. Prior to the creation of Markel Assurance in late 2017, he was president of Markel Wholesale. In his current role, Sanders oversees the Markel Assurance and Markel Specialty divisions. He joined Markel in 2013 as part of the Alterra acquisition. In the past, he’s had positions with Alterra Specialty, Max Specialty, Hilb Rogal and Hobbs Co, and MacDuff Underwriters. Sanders, who has over 36 years of industry experience, entered the sector right out of college, and has knowledge in most segments of the business: From a standard company underwriter early on, to a retail agent for over 10 years; then as a wholesale broker for a number of years, and most recently working on the company side in various senior management roles. He’s had the good fortune to work with some incredible people through the years. Through those partnerships he’s been able to build profitable businesses that have sustained over the long haul.
