Since 1997, Joel D Cavaness has served as president of Risk Placement Services Inc (RPS). Since cofounding RPS, he has been instrumental in driving its rapid growth to become one of the largest US wholesale brokers, managing general agents and program managers. From RPS’s home office in Rolling Meadows, Illinois, Cavaness currently leads a team of nearly 3,000 professionals, and is an active champion of corporate social responsibility, supporting and promoting the team’s involvement in a variety of fundraisers and volunteer initiatives. Cavaness is also a VP of the Wholesale & Specialty Insurance Association, an organisation representing wholesale, specialty and surplus lines industry brokers, insurers, underwriters and other insurance professionals worldwide who conduct business in the US surplus lines market. He has served on the organisation’s board of directors since 2010 and assumed the role of president in February 2019. He was inducted into the Insurance Business Hall of Fame in 2018. A graduate of Southeast Missouri State University with a BS in Business Administration, Cavaness additionally holds Chartered Property Casualty Underwriter and Associate in Risk Management designations.
