CEO, UK and Ireland
Cristopher Lay is Marsh’s CEO for the UK and Ireland, in charge of setting the strategic priorities for the organization and leading Marsh’s operations throughout the region. He also works closely with Marsh & McLennan operating companies – Mercer, Guy Carpenter, and Oliver Wyman – to enable greater client success. Throughout his more than 30-year career with Marsh, Lay has held a variety of senior leadership positions in the UK, EMEA, North America, and globally, including CEO roles in the UK, Middle East, Eastern Europe, Russia, the Nordics, and Canada. He was named head of sales and the corporate segment for the EMEA region in 2005 and held this role until 2012 when he was named business development leader for the international division. Lay then became head of global sales in 2013. Operating worldwide, he has also been president of global captive solutions, which gave him the responsibility for Marsh’s industry leading captive solutions business. Lay, who did his BSc Economics from University College London and holds a certification for Chartered Insurer ACII, was a speaker at the 2019 Women in Insurance Summit UK. This is Lay’s second consecutive year in the Insurance Business Global 100 list.
