John Marchioni took the reins of Selective Insurance in February 2020, after serving as president and COO since 2013. He succeeded 2019 Insurance Business America Hall of Fame inductee Greg Murphy who is now retired and serves as executive chairman at Selective. He is also on the board of directors at Consumer Agent Portal and Selective Insurance Group. Marchioni joined Selective in 1998 as a government affairs specialist, was promoted to assistant vice president of government affairs in 2000, and was appointed vice president and director of government affairs in 2003. A year later, he became vice president and strategic business unit leader; and in 2005, took the role as senior vice president and director of personal lines and flood. Marchioni was promoted to executive vice president and chief field operations officer in October 2007, and president and COO in 2013. He graduated from Princeton University.
