As SVP of claims at RSA Canada, Karen Mican puts her diverse background of claims, underwriting, and operations experience to use every day. Mican was drawn to the insurance industry right out of university, admiring its investment in continued education, strong history of development, and the opportunity to explore diverse areas within one organization. She became SVP in August 2018, with responsibility for the casualty, legal, complex, and property claims. Just this year, she was appointed chief claims officer, with the remit over the entire claims function, including shared services and auto physical damage. Prior to joining RSA in 2017 as vice president for casualty claims and auto physical damage claims, she spent four years at Aviva Canada, where her most recent role was vice president for customer and operational excellence. She also worked at State Farm Insurance for seven years, adding to her diverse experience on claims, underwriting, and operations in multiple distribution models. Mican was listed in the Insurance Business 2020 Elite Women. She holds a BA (Hons.) from the University of Toronto, completed the Ivey Business Executive Program, is a Certified Insurance Professional (CIP), and is a Certified Human Resources Professional (CHRP).
