managing director and CEO
Nick Hawkins has recently been appointed as managing director and CEO of IAG, succeeding Peter Harmer whose retirement was announced in April this year. Hawkins will take the reins at the insurance giant in November, armed with a deep understanding of both global and domestic general insurance along with operational and financial experience. Part of IAG since 2001, Hawkins was appointed deputy CEO in April this year after 12 years as chief financial officer. Before that, he was CEO of IAG’s New Zealand business for two years. Hawkins began his financial services career in 1990 at KPMG. He earned a bachelor’s degree in business/commerce from the University of Western Australia, and finished an Advanced Management Program from Harvard University. He is also a fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in Australia.
