Olivia Guthrow was introduced to insurance when she was still in college. By taking advantage of the opportunities presented to her to get involved in the industry early on, Guthrow’s initial doubts about pursuing a risk management and insurance major quickly dissolved. In her senior year, she served as the president of Virginia Commonwealth University’s chapter of Gamma Iota Sigma, which gave her a platform to educate other students about career opportunities in insurance.
Now, as an underwriting analyst team lead at Continental Underwriters, Guthrow works to ensure that her team runs smoothly and efficiently. She also strives to ensure that diversity and inclusion are at the forefront on the industry’s radar.
“I believe the role of women and people of color will continue to grow in importance as companies seek to maintain relevance and to meet the evolving needs of their insureds,” she says. “Diversity and inclusion must not only be a focus of individual companies, but become embedded in the culture of our industry.”
