Founded by Arthur J. Glatfelter in 1951 in southern Pennsylvania, Glatfelter Insurance Group has spent decades building specialty programs for various industries. In 1968, Glatfelter discovered the underserved market of emergency service organizations and created VFIS to provide insurance, education and consulting services to that industry. In the years that followed, the company also formed Glatfelter Public Practice, a program for schools and colleges; Glatfelter Healthcare Practice for healthcare providers; and Glatfelter Religious Practice, which offers insurance services to religious organizations, regardless of denomination or creed.
