Even during the construction boom of the mid-2000s, many contractors struggled find insurance coverage. In 2006, a year after Safebuilt Insurance Services [SIS] was formed, it launched the Preferred Contractors Insurance Company Risk Retention Group, targeted at large contractors with hard-to-place risks. Ten years later, the program has more than 50,000 members and covers 33 states. The company has since shifted its focus to smaller contractors, adding two more contractors’ general liability programs to cater to artisan and remodel contractors. SIS’ current strategy is to fully develop its online rating and policy management platform to give brokers and clients quick and easy access to its products.
