Bill Lisle, one of the most senior executives at AIA Group Ltd (AIA), has passed away at 57, according to the insurer.

AIA confirmed the news in an emailed statement sent to Bloomberg. However, it did not give the cause of death.

“We are profoundly saddened by the passing of Bill Lisle,” AIA said, as reported by Bloomberg. “Bill was an extraordinarily capable leader who had enormous, positive impact on AIA and in our communities across Asia. To many, Bill was a dear friend, mentor, and colleague.”

Lisle was most recently a group chief distribution officer at AIA, overseeing sales through agents, banks, independent financial advisers, digital platforms, and companies. He was also a regional chief executive, responsible for the company's businesses in Thailand, Vietnam, India, and Sri Lanka.

Lisle spent some time with other insurers throughout his career, including Prudential Plc and Aviva Plc. He joined AIA months after American International Group Inc's former regional life insurance unit went public in October 2010, according to annual reports. In his early days at AIA as the Malaysia CEO, he helped integrate ING Groep NV's life insurance business in the country, with the $1.7 billion deal in 2012 being AIA's first major acquisition as a public company.

AIA did not provide details on who will take over the senior executive's roles because “our sole focus at this time is on supporting those close to Bill.”

“Bill was also an exemplary family man, and our thoughts and condolences go out to his beloved family,” AIA added.
