The Asia-Pacific business of global insurer AIG has a new leader, with the appointment of Sachin Shah as chief executive officer of Asia-Pacific, AIG General Insurance.

Shah moves to AIG from MetLife Japan, where he had served as chairman, president, and CEO since 2013. He also currently serves as president of the American Chamber of Commerce in Japan.

Shah will be based in Singapore and his appointment will start at the end of December, subject to regulatory approval.

“I am pleased to welcome Sachin Shah to AIG as CEO of our Asia-Pacific business,” said Christopher Townsend, chief executive officer of AIG General Insurance International.

“I look forward to working closely with Sachin to deliver innovation and value to our customers and distribution partners in this dynamic region.”

The last five years of Shah’s executive career have been spent leading MetLife’s international growth strategies, including overseeing the integration of the acquisition of Alico across more than 50 countries.

“I’m delighted to be joining AIG and the International General Insurance management team at this exciting time in the Asia-Pacific region,” said Shah. “I look forward to working with AIG colleagues across the region to deliver on our growth ambitions in these fast-moving economies.”
