Allianz Malaysia, a leading provider of auto insurance, conducted several road safety educational activities in four schools in the Sarawak region, reaching more than 300 students.

The program began on August 8 at Sekolah Kebangsaan SEDC in Sibu; followed by Sekolah Kebangsaan Agama Sarikei in Sarikei on August 9; and two schools in Miri: Sekolah Kebangsaan Bekenu on August 11; and Sekolah Kebangsaan Batu Niah on August 12.

The activities aimed to inform schoolchildren about three main topics: pedestrian safety, vehicle safety and basic road signs. Various exercises such as educational videos, quizzes, puzzles, and games were done to teach as well as entertain the learners.

Specially designed road safety booklets and reflective wristbands with the message "Be Safe, Be Seen" were distributed to the students. Additionally, Allianz Malaysia also gave each school teaching tools to help teachers give road safety lessons to future students.

"This is part of our effort to instil road safety awareness among the general public, especially among primary school students. Schools are among our focus areas this year, in addition to regular road safety advocacy campaigns held in collaboration with Jabatan Keselamatan Jalan Raya (JKJR) since July 2011," said Ng Siew Gek, head of Allianz4Good of Allianz Malaysia.

Allianz Malaysia has conducted a total of 144 road safety campaigns nationwide to date, assisted by over 440 of its employees certified by JKJR as road safety ambassadors.

Globally, Allianz cooperates with the Federation Internationale de I'Automobile Foundation’s Road Safety Fund in support of the United Nations’ “Decade of Action for Road Safety 2011-2020''.
