Berkshire Hathaway Specialty Insurance (BHSI) has announced that it is entering the accident and health market in Asia.

The A&H operation for the major insurer in the region will be led by Philip Brain, who will be based in Singapore.

The insurer will initially focus on broker-distributed Group Personal Accident and Business Travel products with a view to expand the offering of A&H products over time.

Marc Breuil, president, BHSI, Asia said that the addition of industry-veteran Brain to the business is a great move for the development of the product in the region.

“Phillip has extensive experience in all aspects of the A&H space, from product underwriting and innovation, to technology,” Breuil said.

“With his leadership, we look forward to establishing an A&H team that will provide employees and employers throughout Asia with meaningful tailored solutions, backed by BHSI’s service, stability and financial strength.”

Brain joins the business with more than two decades worth of experience in the industry and was most recently regional vice president and accident and health manager, Asia Pacific, for Chubb.
During his career, Brain has worked in various A&H roles at AIG in Europe, Australia and New Zealand.
