QBE Re has appointed Stephen Postlewhite as deputy global chief underwriting officer.

He will join the specialist reinsurance division of QBE on November 01, 2018 and will report to Jonathan Parry, chief underwriting officer for reinsurance.

“I am delighted that Stephen is joining QBE Re,” said Parry regarding the appointment. “He brings considerable experience to this key role and will be an important addition to our business.”

A veteran of over 20 years in insurance, Postlewhite joins from Aspen Insurance, where he had served as chief executive officer since 2016. Before that, he was CEO of Aspen Re from 2014. He has also held various roles with Aspen, including chief actuary and chief risk officer.

QBE Re writes all major classes of treaty reinsurance at its offices in London, Brussels, Dublin, New York, and Bermuda.

In 2018, QBE is looking to strengthen its presence in the Asian and North American markets, following an “unacceptable year” of poor performance, according to group CEO Patrick Regan. The Australia-headquartered insurer is reeling from a net loss of US$1.2 billion, followed by the sale of its underperforming Latin American units.
