Gallagher has recently inaugurated a new branch in Taiwan, with this new office being led by Brian Wang, who was also appointed CEO of the Taiwan operation.

Wang, who joined Gallagher in 2022, has extensive experience in the insurance industry, previously holding managing director positions at WTW and AON.

Based in Taipei, the Taiwan headquarters will host a team of risk professionals specialising in various insurance domains, including property and casualty, marine, construction, cyber, trade credit, financial lines, energy, and employee benefits services.

The Taiwan team will also include members from Gallagher Re’s global reinsurance business, led by Jimmy Tsai, and specialists from the aviation team of its London-based Specialty division. This new venture is an extension of Gallagher’s expanding Asia operations, which already include presences in Japan, Hong Kong, Singapore, India, Malaysia, the Philippines, and Indonesia.

Previously operating under the Alexander Leed brand since 2001, the team in Taiwan brings significant market knowledge and local experience. The establishment of the Taiwan hub is a strategic move by Gallagher to enhance its service offerings and deliver tailored products and services in the local market.

“I am thrilled to be leading Gallagher’s insurance and risk management offering to clients in Taiwan,” Wang said. “The country has experienced strong economic growth over recent years, and we have very active manufacturing, agriculture, financial and technology sectors so having an on-the-ground presence in Taipei presents strong expansion opportunities. In addition to working directly with Taiwanese businesses, as one of the world’s largest brokers with extensive access to global markets, Gallagher is well placed to work alongside other in-country brokers to support those looking to place insurance for more complex risks.”

“Our launch in Taiwan marks another major milestone in Gallagher’s plans to expand in Asia. We first launched in the region in 2011 and have steadily grown our footprint through acquisitions, partnerships, and organic growth. I am delighted with the calibre of the team we are bringing to clients in Taiwan and with our on-the ground experience in insurance, reinsurance and employee benefits we are well placed to quickly scale up our existing client base,” Gallagher Australia and Asia CEO Sarah Lyons said.
