ICICI Life Insurance Limited has unveiled a new brand identity, as India’s insurance industry faces growing pressure to make financial protection more transparent and affordable.

Formerly known as ICICI Prudential Life Insurance Company Limited, the insurer announced its new identity on October 16 alongside the tagline “Har Kal Aasaan,” which it states reflects a commitment to making insurance easier to understand.

The repositioning comes as India’s insurance regulator considers changes to distribution commissions and operating expenses, placing greater attention on the cost and quality of insurance sales. While ICICI Life has not linked its rebranding to the proposed reforms, both developments highlight the industry’s focus on how insurance products are presented and delivered to customers.

Srinivas Balasubramanian, chief of marketing, digital and bancassurance at ICICI Life, said changing career paths, family structures and financial priorities have made long-term financial planning increasingly complex.

Longer lifespans and shifting consumer expectations have also influenced how customers approach financial protection, creating challenges for insurers seeking to communicate the value of long-term coverage.

“While life insurance plays a critical role in navigating these uncertainties, the traditional experience of securing one’s financial future has often been perceived as complicated,” Balasubramanian said.

The insurer intends to move its messaging beyond protection against unexpected events toward helping customers make more informed decisions about their financial futures.

“Our new brand identity goes far beyond a change in name. It reflects our broader commitment to make the experience of securing one’s financial future simpler, more transparent, more flexible and with ease,” Balasubramanian said.

Distribution focus

The emphasis on accessibility comes as ICICI Life expands its protection business. Its FY2026 annual report showed that retail protection annualized premium equivalent (APE) increased 32.3% to ₹7.91 billion, while overall protection APE rose 16.4%.

Distribution remains central to its business, with bancassurance generating ₹31.75 billion in APE during FY2026, compared with ₹26.86 billion through agency channels.

The wider distribution environment is also evolving. The Insurance Regulatory and Development Authority of India (IRDAI) is considering proposed commission and expense reforms intended to reduce insurance costs and address mis-selling.

The proposals include commission caps and tighter expense limits, potentially affecting how insurers compensate intermediaries and manage customer acquisition costs. IRDAI has indicated that it intends to allow an orderly transition, with the changes potentially taking effect in 2027.

ICICI Life also linked its new identity to India’s national goal of achieving “Insurance for All by 2047,” which seeks to broaden access to insurance protection.

The company has not disclosed specific operational measures or implementation targets associated with the new brand promise, leaving the practical implications for its distribution network and policyholders yet to be established.
