MetLife Hong Kong has sponsored a seminar to raise awareness about diabetes, and its prevention and management.

The seminar, in commemoration of World Diabetes Day, was organised in cooperation with the Diabetic Support Group and discussed the rising trend of diabetes cases in Hong Kong, as well as other health risks associated with the condition.

Held at the Hospital Authority Building, the seminar attracted over 100 participants, who each received a free health check-up at the venue. A registered nutritionist was present to provide dietary recommendations and debunk popular myths. Several medical specialists also shared knowledge about possible diabetes complications, such as diabetic limb, which could lead to amputations, and diabetic mellitus retinopathy, which could lead to blindness.

“For the 1 in 10 people in Hong Kong living with diabetes, we are dedicated to raising awareness in the community about diabetes and its prevention,” said Carolyn Chung, head of corporate marketing and communications of MetLife Hong Kong. “Recently, we have extended the scope of the MetLife Health-is-Wealth Medical Plan to include people with diabetes. Through this inclusive action, we hope to help this group of people better navigate their health journey.”
