MS Amlin brand streamlines as part of Mitsui Sumitomo overhaul

MS Amlin has confirmed a brand simplification that will see it operate as the sole company trading under the MS Amlin name, following a restructuring move by parent firm Mitsui Sumitomo Insurance.

Effective July 1, the change means that all use of the MS Amlin brand across the market – including websites and social media – will exclusively represent the London-based global reinsurer and its offerings.

The firm explained that this adjustment aims to provide greater clarity for brokers, partners, and clients engaging with the brand.

“The MS Amlin brand has real power and recognition amongst our brokers, partners and clients.  It stands for a company that has stability and financial strength, all of which gives our insured clients comfort as the market grapples with the increasingly unstable world around us,” CEO Andrew Carrier said.

Carrier added that establishing a clearer link between the brand and its services is a logical step as the company continues to develop its operations.

The brand consolidation aligns with broader changes within the MS&AD Insurance Group, which is currently in the process of merging MS Amlin Insurance SE (Belgium) with MSIG Insurance Europe AG (Germany). The proposed intragroup merger, aimed at creating a streamlined and efficient European presence, is expected to close this year.

The combined entity will be headquartered in Germany and operate under the MSIG name, subject to regulatory approval.

The simplification also follows MS Amlin AG’s rebrand to MS Reinsurance in 2022, a move intended to clearly distinguish the global reinsurance arm from other parts of the MS&AD group. That rebrand was part of a longer-term transformation strategy to build a unified platform under the MS brand, with each segment focused on distinct business lines.

In a related strategic shift, MS Amlin launched a partnerships division earlier this year, with the objective of expanding risk-sharing capabilities and enhancing participation in core London market facilities.

The division is structured to foster collaboration with third parties, such as managing general agents and consortia.
