RSA has appointed Martin Rueegg as chief executive of its Middle East and UAE operations, effective September.

He succeeds Lloyd East, who moves to Johnson, RSA’s Canadian arm, as vice president of strategic operations and chief operating officer.

Ruegg joins after almost 25 years with AXA, where he was most recently general insurance managing director for Hong Kong. He also served as CEO of AXA Corporate Solutions, Hong Kong and CEO of aviation insurance.

As a result of East’s transfer, Praveen Kumar, chief financial officer for Middle East, will become CEO in Oman, and Miron Kibria, risk & compliance director for the Middle East, succeeds Kumar as CFO for Oman. Meanwhile, Elena Stukanova, CFO of UAE and Bahrain, will take over as Middle East CFO.

East joined RSA in May 2009 as group director of marketing effectiveness before being appointed CEO of RSA’s Oman business (Al Ahlia) in 2011. In 2014, his role was expanded to CEO for the Middle East and Oman. Before joining RSA, East held senior roles at Principle Insurance Holdings and the AA.

“We are delighted to welcome Martin to his new role at what is an exciting time for our Middle East business,” said Scott Egan, CEO, RSA UK and International. “Martin has all the skills necessary ensure that our operations in the Middle East go from strength to strength. I’d also like to thank Lloyd for his contribution to the UK&I region, and wish him all the best in his new role at Johnson, where I am certain he will add great value to our Canadian colleagues.”
