Earlier this week, global claims handler Charles Taylor Adjusting welcomed Stephen Thorpe to the team, naming him as the latest APAC director for natural resources and engineering.

Speaking to Insurance Business immediately after his appointment, Thorpe said he was excited to be joining a team with goals and motivations which matched his own.

“I’m most looking forward to working with like-minded adjusting professionals in further developing Charles Taylor’s onshore natural resources offering regionally and globally,” he said. “I’m looking forward to making a difference.”

Thorpe, who was previously a partner in his own adjusting firm, also weighed in on what he expects to be most challenging aspect of the new senior position.

“The most challenging element of the role is to ensure that we fully engage with and listen to all of the stakeholders in the natural resource sector – insurers and reinsurers, along with risk managers and brokers,” he told Insurance Business. “This includes the growing importance of renewables.”

Thorpe also acknowledged that all stakeholders have their own priorities during the claims process, and said the loss adjuster has a responsibility to balance all of those expectations.

“Each may have a different perspective in the onshore natural resources claims environment, but it is imperative that we deliver a service that adds value across all sectors,” he said. “I plan to meet these challenges by ensuring that we listen and gain input from all relevant stakeholders.”
