The Life Insurance Association, Singapore (LIA) has extended the hospitalisation coverage for COVID-19 vaccination complications under Integrated Shield Plans (IP) until Dec. 31, 2022.

The previous coverage offered by the seven IP insurers, which ran for 12 months, ended on Dec. 31, 2021. The seven insurers are AIA, AXA, Great Eastern Life, NTUC Income, Prudential Singapore, Raffles Health Insurance and Singlife with Aviva.

According to LIA, the extended cover will apply to all IP policyholders who receive COVID-19 vaccines under the National Vaccination Programme, as well as those approved by the World Health Organisation under its Emergency Use Listing Procedure and administered in Singapore under the Special Access Route.

The move reflects the life insurance industry’s continued support of the government’s ongoing vaccination and booster immunisation programme, the industry body said.

“Life insurers remain committed to playing their part in the collective effort to bring COVID-19 under control by supporting the National Vaccination Programme,” said Khor Hock Seng, president of LIA Singapore. “IP policyholders taking their vaccination and booster shots can rest assured that any related medical complications resulting in hospitalisation will be covered by their respective insurers.”

In a separate statement, AIA Singapore said that its AIA HealthShield Gold Max plan (including its rider) and AIA Corporate medical insurance will continue to cover complications arising from COVID-19 vaccination that results in hospitalisation, as long as the vaccines are approved by the Health Sciences Authority. This is in addition to other support measures provided to its customers, such as expanded teleconsultation and mental wellbeing services.
