Sompo Japan Nipponkoa, a property insurer based in Japan, is one of the main sponsors of the CIMB Classic 2016, the premier golf competition in Malaysia.

According to Sompo, its philosophy aims to contribute to the security, health, and well-being of its customers. Part of this includes the sponsorship of sports, such as golf, which has been gaining popularity in Asia. More and more people have been participating in sports as a means to maintain physical fitness.

The tournament has been organized by CIMB Group, one of the largest banking groups in ASEAN. Since 2013-2014, it is the only PGA Tour official FedExCup event in Southeast Asia, and is co-sanctioned by Asian Tour. It will be held on October 20-23, 2016 at the Kuala Lumpur Golf & Country Club and a total of 78 players will be participating in the sporting event.
