Sun Life Philippines’ Sison to head life insurers’ association

Sun Life Philippines CEO and country head Benedict Sison, has been chosen as the new president of the Philippine Life Insurance Association (PLIA).

According to a report by the Manila Times, Sison succeeds Troo president and CEO Hanz Loozekoot, who will take on the role of Asia chief business development officer for Ageas, Troo’s parent company.

Sison joined Sun Life in 2010 as chief financial officer of its Philippine operations. In 2012, he was appointed as chief financial officer for the entire Asian region, before returning to the Philippines in 2015 as chief strategy and financial management officer, expanding his previous role. In 2018, he became CEO of Sun Life Philippines.

Prior to joining Sun Life, Sison was part of the financial department of an international food company.

“With his excellent track record and passion for the industry’s mission, Benedict will surely be an asset to our organization,” said PLIA general manager George Mina.

“With the increasing financial literacy of Filipinos and with digitalization paving the way for more opportunities, there are many exciting possibilities we can pursue,” Sison said regarding his appointment. “I look forward to working hand in hand with PLIA member companies and other stakeholders to reinforce our industry’s purpose.”

The PLIA is the industry association of life insurance companies in the Philippines. Composed of 30 member companies, the organisation’s stated objective is to promote the growth of the life insurance industry in the Philippines, so that it could expand its contribution to the socio-economic development of the nation.
