Specialist insurer Tokio Marine Kiln (TMK) has announced the appointment of Ben Amphlett as deputy underwriter for aviation. He will report to James Walker, active aviation underwriter.

Amphlett has extensive experience in aviation, particularly in airline, aerospace, and lessors insurance. He will be in charge of developing new aviation contingency products for the company and will work with other syndicate aviation businesses with a specific emphasis on the airlines and aerospace accounts.

Prior to joining TMK, Amphlett was a senior aviation underwriter at Chubb, beginning in 2014. He also worked as an underwriter at Global Aerospace Underwriting Managers, which he joined in 2001.

Paul Culham, group chief underwriting officer, commented on the hire: “Like many classes of business, aviation has seen significant softening of rates in the last few years. The way we are looking to stay ahead in such a tough market is by having experienced, technical underwriters who truly understand their business line. Ben is an example of this: he has all-round experience in multiple disciplines of aviation, especially in contingency, a strand of business that we have not previously been writing.”
