Sompo expands Israeli presence with new cyber centre

Top Japanese insurer Sompo is opening a cybersecurity centre and software development group in Israel as part of the expansion of its digital lab in the country.

The new centre will develop the ability to assist Sompo to secure its products against cyber threats and provide solutions to the various units of the firm across the world. It will be led by Sompo Israel’s head of cybersecurity, Rotem Matok.

According to Calcalist, the insurer is also establishing a software development group in the country for the fields of insurance and health. This division will be led by Sompo Digital Lab CTO and head of product incubation Diyaa Shridi.

“Establishing the cybersecurity centre and development group is part of our trend of expanding into new areas, as well as the collaborations that we are creating with various startups,” said  Yinnon Dolev, Sompo Israel and Europe Digital Lab head.

The insurance group’s Malaysian division, Berjaya Sompo, recently announced its achievement of RM1 billion in gross written premiums (GWP) for the fiscal year of 2022.
