Singapore-based Great Eastern Holdings has launched a rebrand of its general insurance arm as it plans to expand its operations and turn it into one of the group’s pillars for growth.

In a release dated Tuesday, the group said that the Overseas Assurance Corporation (OAC) will now be known as Great Eastern General Insurance (GEG) in Singapore, while the firm’s Malaysian operations will be rebranded next month.

According to the release, the rebranding efforts are part of the company’s strategy to focus more on general insurance and derive more growth from the sector.

“With the consolidation of OAC into the Great Eastern brand, there will be greater brand unity across our business lines which will enable us to fully leverage the strengths of our established brand to offer more compelling propositions,” said Great Eastern Holdings CEO Khor Hock Seng.

“Moving forward, a strategic focus will be to leverage the huge customer database and distribution capabilities of Great Eastern and OCBC Bank and draw on our collective strengths to tap into new growth opportunities to serve individual and corporate customers,” Khor added.

As one of the first changes brought about by the rebrand, Khor said that the insurer will upgrade its Travel Smart Premier mobile app, which will allow customers to purchase a wider range of products and a simpler claims process.

GEG customers will now receive access to Great Eastern’s Live Great loyalty programme. A weekly event, called Live Great Fridays, will allow members to enjoy special treats and discounts ever Friday, from mid-September until December 2017.
