The African Reinsurance Corporation (Africa Re) has opened a new office in Kinshasa, Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), as part of its strategy to expand its presence and support the insurance and reinsurance sector in the region.
The Kinshasa office, located in the Skyview 2 building on Avenue Pumbu, was officially inaugurated on Oct. 9.
The event was attended by Moustapha Coulibaly, chairman of the board of directors of Africa Re, along with Robert Matungala, head of the Insurance Regulation Directorate of Congo, and Vincent Mwepu, president of the Insurers' Association of Congo. Other dignitaries from public institutions, the private sector, and the insurance industry were also present.

Africa Re said that the new office represents a strategic step in strengthening relationships with partners and advancing the development of the insurance and reinsurance market in the DRC. The company aims to use its expanded presence to better serve local clients and contribute to the growth of the sector in the country.
Earlier in the year, Africa Re reported a 19.2% increase in gross written premiums for the first half of 2025 compared to the same period in 2024. Net profit for the first half reached US$78.5 million, up from US$65.9 million in the prior-year period, reflecting stronger underwriting performance and investment returns.
Also this year, Africa Re named Ephraim Kiiza Bichetero as its new chief operating officer. Bichetero brings extensive experience in both African and international reinsurance markets, supporting the company’s focus on leadership development and executive succession planning.
Africa Re has also partnered with UNICEF to launch a climate resilience program for Nigerian youth earlier this year. The initiative includes training, mentorship, and funding for youth-led projects focused on climate adaptation and disaster risk reduction, aiming to build capacity and awareness of climate risks among young people.
