Global specialty re/insurer Canopius Group has appointed Jinnan Tang (pictured above) as casualty treaty underwriter, effective August 11.
Tang will be based in Singapore and join the company’s Asia-Pacific regional team, reporting to Andrew Parker and Micia Yong.
Tang has more than 12 years of experience in underwriting, pricing, reserving and actuarial analysis. He most recently worked at MS Amlin Singapore, where he managed casualty and marine treaty portfolios across the Asia-Pacific and Middle East and North Africa regions.
His responsibilities included developing the Marine FMX strategy and increasing Marine premium volumes, as well as mentoring junior staff, enhancing portfolio analysis, and supporting regional growth through targeted market activities.
Before his tenure at MS Amlin, Tang held actuarial positions in London with Westfield Specialty and Aon Reinsurance Solutions. He led pricing initiatives for UK motor, international liability and marine portfolios, and advised on reserving, capital modeling and pricing while at Insight Risk Consulting.
“Jinnan’s technical expertise and regional market insight make him a strong addition to our Casualty treaty team,” Canopius CEO APAC & MENA Soon Keen Lee said.
Tang’s arrival follows other senior appointments in the region. In June, Canopius named Brodie English as head of casualty for Australia and New Zealand, and Rob Barnum as head of financial lines for Asia-Pacific.
Meanwhile, Canopius reported gross written premiums of $3.53 billion in 2024, up 26 % from the previous year, alongside a 10 % increase in profit after tax to $401.3 million. The company’s leadership has noted that growth in multiple business lines has provided the foundation for expanded underwriting capacity and talent recruitment across its global operations.
Canopius also made recent changes in its marine and energy treaty division. In July, Ben Pinnington was promoted to head of marine and energy treaty, while Imogen Wright was appointed as an underwriter in the same unit.
