Five sets of moves across the reinsurance market coincide with the 2026 Baden-Baden Reinsurance Meeting in Germany, where cedants and reinsurers are negotiating the shape of the 2027 renewal cycle. The moves span a board-level consolidation at Munich Re, a 25-year retirement at Arch Re, a people leadership hire at Ariel Re, an underwriting addition at Rokstone’s specialty treaty division, and a Bermuda leadership reorganization at The Fidelis Partnership.
Munich Re’s supervisory board has transferred responsibility for P&C reinsurance Europe and Latin America to Thomas Blunck (pictured, first from left), effective November 1. Blunck, who has served on Munich Re’s board of management since October 2005 and currently holds the role of CEO of reinsurance, absorbs the division from Clarisse Kopff, who steps down from the board by mutual agreement on October 31. Kopff joined the board in December 2022 and has led the Europe and Latin America non-life division since then. Munich Re confirmed that Kopff will not be replaced on the board of management.
The consolidation reduces the board’s headcount while concentrating reinsurance oversight under Blunck, who has held board-level responsibility at Munich Re for more than two decades.
Matthew Dragonetti (pictured, second from left), president of Arch Re Ltd., will retire effective March 2027, following a 25-year tenure with the company. Dragonetti was among the first employees to join Arch Re in 2001, starting as a senior US property treaty underwriter before progressing through a series of leadership roles. He served as head of US property from January 2005 to December 2011, head of worldwide property from July 2013 to December 2017. He was also president and head of property from January 2018 to June 2026, before moving into his current role as president and chief commercial officer in September 2024, according to his LinkedIn profile.
Arch Re has not announced a successor. Dragonetti’s departure closes out a career that tracked Arch Re’s growth from a start-up operation into one of the leading Bermuda-based property reinsurers. Jerome Halgan, CEO of Arch Global Reinsurance Group, credited Dragonetti with helping build the business and said he would be “dearly missed.”
Ariel Re has appointed Tamsin Webster (pictured, second from right) as chief people officer, a newly created role within the London-market reinsurer’s leadership structure. Webster joins from ECI Partners, a UK private equity firm, where she served as head of people and established the firm’s first internal HR function. Before that, she was chief people officer at Fulcrum Asset Management and held senior HR roles at UBS, BlackRock, and Lloyds Banking Group.
Ryan Mather, CEO of Ariel Re, described Webster’s appointment as part of the firm’s ambition to strengthen its position as what he termed an “academy firm.”
Rokstone has appointed Airlie Isted (pictured, first from right) as underwriter within its specialty reinsurance team. Isted joins from Antares Managing Agency, where she spent four years and was promoted to underwriter in April 2024. She began her career at AXA XL in 2018 as an apprentice underwriter in specialty reinsurance. Her experience covers marine, energy, and terrorism reinsurance.
The appointment reunites Isted with Eddie Hughes, head of specialty reinsurance at Rokstone, who originally hired her at Antares. Rokstone’s specialty reinsurance division, which launched its global treaty portfolio across marine, energy, terrorism, property, aviation, and space under Hughes’s leadership, cited US$25 million in gross written premium in its first ten months of operation, according to the company. The division is targeting US$40 million in 2027, also per the company’s own figures.
The Fidelis Partnership (TFP) has appointed Greg Bowman as CEO Bermuda and a member of the group executive committee, while also elevating two executives as part of a broader reorganization of its Bermuda leadership. Bowman, who joined TFP in 2023 and relocated to Bermuda in June, retains his responsibilities as group head of ceded reinsurance.
Mark Herget has been appointed CUO Insurance Bermuda, deputy group head of property, and head of property binders, taking on responsibility for TFP’s property binders growth strategy. He joined TFP in 2020 and was previously deputy group head of D&F property, energy, and construction. Danny Mereu, meanwhile, becomes deputy CUO Bermuda, overseeing Bermuda analytics and portfolio performance. He has been with TFP since 2023 and previously served as group head of property underwriting analytics and pricing.
The three appointments follow a run of senior hires and Pine Walk cell launches that TFP has used to build out its Bermuda underwriting and analytics capabilities over the past 18 months. Recent additions include Helen Wilson as CUO Reinsurance Bermuda, effective January 2027, and two new Pine Walk cells, Mezura Capital Partners and Adroit Underwriting.
TFP reported US$5.4 billion in written premiums across all capacity providers for the year ended December 31, 2025, up from US$4.7 billion in 2024, with its Pine Walk MGA platform growing to US$1 billion in premium across 16 cells. John Paul O’Hare, group director of underwriting, said the appointments cement the investment TFP has made in Bermuda talent and capability over that period.
